WEAKNESSES: Some of his most obvious flaws stem from the fact that he’s so small for his age. He is constantly teased for being so short, and as a cruel joke he’s often asked what middle school he goes to. This has made him very defensive, and whenever someone pokes fun at him for being short he always goes out of his way to show that he’s just as capable as anyone else. Also because of his size he is unable to wield weapons like swords and such.

He also struggles with the ‘factual’ classes, like Math and History. He’s not very good with problems that have one set answer, since he likes to explore multiple possibilities. He doesn’t like being limited in anything, and will struggle against boundaries set for him. Also, along with this, it can often be very difficult for others to follow his train of thought, since he thinks and acts so quickly. Finally, because of his inquisitive nature, he often gets into trouble because he finds out things that he shouldn’t know.
STRENGTHS: While he may have difficulties with weapons, Ray is actually very talented at hand-to-hand combat. He has received formal training since he was ten, and he is doing fairly well at that. Ray is also an extremely creative person. If he’s presented with a problem, then he can think of half-a-dozen different solutions in a few minutes. He also does really well at creative classes, like English and Art. This creativity often proves useful in battle, because he has no troubles thinking of a new tactic if the current one isn’t working for some reason.

PERSONALITY: If you know his buttons, it’s very easy to provoke Ray. He has little, if any, restraint when it comes to being challenged, and when he’s angry he’ll often try to do things without thinking about all of the consequences. Thankfully, though, there are only a few things that provoke him this quickly. In most situations he’s able to keep a cool head and think things through.

The problem with him is that even if he does think things through he often makes stupid choices. He decides what to do based on what is the most interesting thing to do or what looks the coolest at that moment. He is also very big on trial and error: he’ll keep trying different ideas until something works. To his credit, though, he often thinks of good ideas, so it’s not like he’s always set up to fail.

When he’s not angry, Ray is actually a very fun person to be around. He loves exploring, talking to people, and hanging out. He does act a little immaturely, but he does it in such a way that it’s not inherently annoying (except when he starts asking questions. Then he gets horribly annoying.). He’s also got a huge sense of curiosity. He wants to find out everything he can about every little thing. This presents a very big problem for him, though: since he wants to do everything, it’s very difficult for him to make big decisions which involve sacrificing one thing for another. If he’s faced with a very big decision he’ll struggle to make it, since he’s torn over which to go with. He’ll try his best to avoid those sort of decisions if he can, though, since he hates limiting himself like that. Sometimes it even goes to the point where others are forced to make the decision for him, since he’ll drag it out for as long as he can.

He’s very fond of mystery novels, since he loves figuring things out. However, he’s often disappointed by the end of them, since there is always one right answer in the end. He also likes to attribute his curiosity to science whenever someone questions him about it, since it sounds professional and cool at the same time. His dream is to be a scientist, since they get to experiment on all sorts of things all the time. (at least, that’s how it works in his mind)
BACKGROUND: Ray is the oldest of two children, and he was raised by his parents in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. While not insanely rich, his family was relatively well-off. Ray was raised to appreciate what he had, but he never was left wanting for the basic necessities in life. For his life there was only really one trouble he experienced, and that was his size. He was born prematurely, and from day one he had always been small for his size. His birthday is just before the cut-off date for school, too, so he’s always been the youngest and smallest in his class. This certainly didn’t help his self-esteem, especially when his sister, who is two years younger than him, hit her growth spurt before he did and grew to be taller than he was, but somehow he managed.

Recently, though, his life took a turn for the worst. Ray wasn’t alone when he first experienced the Dark Hour. His mother experienced it at the same time he did. Unfortunately, this made them both a big target, and they had no idea what was going on. They frequently spent the Dark Hour running from shadows, and it tired them out quickly. After almost a month the shadows finally caught up with them, and in order to save at least one of them Ray and his mother split up and ran in separate directions. Ray managed to escape the shadows that night, and his path soon led him to SEES.

He’s not quite ready to join them yet, though. He has two goals in life, and he’s not sure if SEES can help fulfill those goals. One goal is to find his mother and protect all of his family from the shadows, which is pretty self-explanatory. The other thing he wants to do, though, is to investigate the shadows. He wants to learn more about them, what they do, and why they’re here. Of course, he can’t do that if he works to destroy them, which is why he is hesitant to join SEES right now. He knows that he’ll eventually join them and help save the world, but for right now he wants to learn more about the Shadows and the Dark Hour. Even though it’s pretty freaky, it’s also pretty cool.

Other Notes: He does take notes about what he sees and finds, but they're coded. If people get a hold of his pocket notebook, then they can try to break the code. It's a simple code that's just meant to prevent people looking over his shoulder from reading what he writes, so it's pretty easy to break if you put effort into it. Coded writings are written [In Brackets], and they are written in a small pocket notebook.
